Canoe Trippin'

A few days ago I read this book called Cold Sassy Tree by a lady named Olive Ann Burns. I'd heard, sometime in the distant past, that it was good. And boy howdy, is it good. There's hardly even any plot, just a To Kill A Mockingbird-esque narration of what it was like to live in small-town America in the early 20th century. I'm not usually a fan of first-person narration, but Will Tweedy's point of view is frank, honest, funny, and fraught with age-appropriate grammatical mistakes. It was good.

We just went on a canoe trip. Got back yesterday. It was awesome, and good memories were goodly made. But now that we're home again, I'm pretty much over vacation. It was pretty good for the first three-quarters, but now I'm aching for some structure. Sitting around all day drinking tea and trying to write isn't good for my productivity. This semester is going to be crazy, with school and new job and NaNoWriMo and going to Texas and everything, and I'm kind of freaking out about it. But I'm still excited to get started. Being busier than I ever have been before in my life is probably better than sitting around for hours wondering what flavour of Jolly Rancher I want to eat next, and questioning whether I have enough energy to get up to fetch it.

Yeah.
